Our culture is deep and wide — from the Osage Nation to the oilman to the American cowboy and rancher.

We’re home to the Osage Nation, who settled here in the 1870s — predating statehood — and whose heritage is alive and visible here every day.

We have the oilman, who works in our surrounding oil fields on historic oil sites.

And we have the American cowboy and rancher, using the same traditional methods of ranching today that were used 200 years ago.

It’s all alive and active here.

Recreation

Besides being the gateway to the largest stretch of protected prairie left in the world, Pawhuska is home to two lakes, two parks, a fitness center with an indoor exercise pool, and a host of events each year which attract visitors from around the nation.

With the vast open views of prairie also comes great ranching, and with great ranching comes great rodeos. Pawhuska is home to Cavalcade, the world’s largest amateur rodeo, as well as other rodeos throughout the year, many of which are housed in a brand new arena just outside of town.

• Ben Johnson Park — includes a splashpad and skatepark

• Williams Park — includes a nine-hole frisbee golf course

• Lake Pawhuksa — has great fishing

• Bluestem Lake — a 700+ acre lake with private lots and public beaches and boat ramps
